Here are the instructions for the How Old? Icebreaker activity mentioned in our Icebreakers! (not the gum) post.
- Go to how-old.net on your mobile device.
- Select “Use your own photo.”
- Select Camera.
- Take a picture and confirm.
- Record the age that it guesses.
- Choose “Try another photo” and repeat the process 5 (or more) times, trying to take similar photos each time.
- Create a visualization of your choice (using software, colored pencils, pens, anything you want) to show some important features of the data.
- Think about some ways that the algorithm might predict your age, do you think you can manipulate the algorithm?
- Try making some different faces to attempt to manipulate the algorithm (at least 5 more pictures).
- Add these data to your visualization in a way that differentiates them from the original data (but keep them in the same display).
- Look at your final visualization and make some conclusions about the age guessing software, your data, or the algorithm. What do you notice? Share with a neighbor.
